![]() ![]() It comes down to whether or not you are that patient, and how much you need more tracks, effects, and vsti and midi (via P5). Sure, time could possibly change these things, as Ableton makes theire software more mac friendly (I don't know if I believe it, but a lot of the whiny mac people blame Ableton for it's limitations on a mac-it couldn't possibly be that their precious expensive mac is actually slower than a pc, say it isn't so, lets blame ableton) and someday incorporates vsti and midi. Look around on the forum, and you will definitely see that it is currently indisputable that Live is faster on PC, and currrently the only vst in Live option that is solid seems to be P5 (pc only). I too have reason, live, p5 and a buttload of vsti, and i too can have tons of tracks and effects, all three apps going at once (sometimes with Fruity Loos too) and no problems at all. for UGLY-the pretty winner is Gateway 600 XL-they did the titanium thing to make it easier for all the mac crossover people)-Toshibas satelite 2430 XP PRo, 2.5 P4, 1 gig RAM. Your friends computer sounds exactly like mine (but hey, for a pc, its not that ugly-take a look at compaq.hp,etc. Some fellow Mac peeps care to tell me I'm crazy and come back to Earth? Some Windows users care to tell me to "follow the light"? Maybe I should just build a cheapo box just for running Project 5, that's not quite the same though. ![]() ![]() It was a damn inspiring experience and I'm feeling a strong pull to go pick up a Wintel. I've been looking for a way to stop using a monster like Logic after all these years and the Ableton, Project 5, Reason thing might be just what I'm looking for. Yeah, it was kind of ugly and big and heavy and it is running Windows but damn, to be able to have all that power and even run VSTis in Live is so tempting right now, especially since it's a fraction of the price of a new Mac. I haven't been able to say that in a LONG time. His machine smoked and he had a ton of tracks and effects running in with low CPU stress. My old 733 PowerMac started to look and feel rather lame. ![]() He said he paid $1500 for his machine which is powered by a 2.4 Ghz Pentium. I never considered it an option until today when my friend brought over his Toshiba Satellite running Live, Reason, Project5(AWESOME!!!) and about a million VSTs amd VSTis. I've always been pro-Mac and have not really had much experience with Windows. I've been a life long Mac user and have used Ableton Live since it's birth. ![]()
